President's Statement February 27, 2020

Greetings fellow oval enthusiasts!

The ACA has number of updates and announcements for the upcoming season. Please be sure to read through them all, and feel free to reach out to me or any other board member if you have any questions. All updated information will also be available on our web site at

  1. New Racer Clinic 4/7/20
We will once again be hosting a FREE introductory clinic for new racers before races begin in April. It will be held on Tuesday, April 7th at 6 pm at the oval. Please spread the word to any potential new riders!
  2. Officials Needed
We are still looking for additional officials to be able to act as fill-ins on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The training can be completed online over the course of a few days, the ACA covers the cost of the license, and we compensate non-head officials $60 per night. Please let us know if you or someone you know might be interested!
  3. ACA Membership Fee Changes
This year, USAC has increased its insurance fee from $4.00 to $4.75 per rider per day. In order to keep the race fees at $10 for members (and $15 for non-members), we will instead be offsetting this cost by increasing all forms of ACA membership (including season passes) by $15. The web site and all links for purchasing memberships have been updated with the new fee structure.
  4. Points Season Proposal
Thank you to everyone who has given us input on what you would like to see with regard to our points series moving forward! Based on what we have heard, the board has come up with a proposal for the format of the series, which is outlined below. The goal of these changes is to keep races exciting and challenging for all of our racers throughout the season. On March 2nd, we will formally vote on whether to implement this new format. During the next week, any racers are welcome to contact us with thoughts/comments they wish to be considered when voting.
    • 9 weeks of points races during July and August
    • ACA picnic on Wednesday, July 1st would kickoff the start of the series with points races for all categories
    • All 9 races count toward the series - no "dropping" races
    • Updated allocation of points for race placement using a more weighted scale - proposed points earned for 1st through 8th place is 14-10-7-5-4-3-2-1. This system more closely resembles the points schedules for other race series and is intended to discourage negative racing.
  5. Race Day and Series Payouts/Awards
The payout and award setup for both individual races and the overall series is being streamlined. This should result in less strain on officials and quicker results at the conclusion of each race. All races and categories meeting attendance threshold will pay out for top 3 ($15-$10-$5) and MAR ($10). The overall series awards and payouts will also be for just top 3 podium and MAR. These changes will offset other increased costs for permitting, insurance, and officials from the past few years.

Again, please feel free to reach out to any board member or contact with questions.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you in April!
